Phoenix Perennial Plants

All nurseries

Phoenix Perennial Plants is a small specialist working nursery that propagates and grows plants on site. The nursery is open by appointment only. Please ring before travelling.

It specialises in hardy herbaceous plants attractive to pollinators, other beneficial insects and birds all grown in loam-based bespoke compost. Plants suitable for chalk and limestone soils, gravel gardens and prairie-style meadows predominate with a smattering of interesting annuals thrown in. A diverse range of umbellifers (members of the carrot family) are also available providing interesting foliage and subtle flowers contributing greatly as a food source for useful insects such as ladybirds. Architectural skeletons persist during the winter months acting as a template for hoar frosts and spiders webs.

Articles on the nursery have been published in The Garden, The Telegraph and Gardens Illustrated and is often mentioned as a supplier for Garden Designers exhibiting at The Chelsea Flower Show, Malvern, Hampton Court, Tatton Park and Chatsworth. In 2008, Marina wrote the monthly Plantsman’s Choice series for Gardens Illustrated and the Plantsman’s Favourite in 2016. Various articles have been published in The Garden, Gardens Illustrated, The Garden Design Journal and Gardeners’ World magazines.

Marina is an RHS Trials Chair and has been on Trials judging panels since 2000 and is currently a corresponding member of the RHS Herbaceous Committee. She gives talks using plant material as props rather than slides or Power Point and teaches for the Plant School, KLC and previously for the English Gardening School.
